Iraqi forces destroy 6 ISIS tunnels close to Syria border

Iraqi forces have destroyed six tunnels connecting Iraq to Syria that the "Islamic State of Iraq and Syria" (ISIS) had dug when it was still in control of parts of Anbar province, the al-Badiya and al-Jazeera Operations Command said Wednesday (March 27th).

"Four of those tunnels contained weapons, ammunition, medicines and motorcycles," Col. Ali Abdul Salam al-Obaidi said.

"The tunnels were discovered during large-scale combing operations which mainly relied on human effort with support from international coalition warplanes," he said.

Efforts to search for these tunnels are part of operations aimed at preventing infiltrations from Syria to Iraq and restricting the movement of ISIS remnants and cells, he said.
