21 Yazidis detained by ISIS in Syria return to Sinjar

Iraq has recently received 21 Yazidis who had been kidnapped by the "Islamic State of Iraq and Syria" (ISIS) and detained in Syria, an Iraqi Interior Ministry official told Diyaruna Tuesday (March 26th).

"Fifteen women and six children detained by ISIS in Syria’s al-Baghouz were returned home to Sinjar this week thanks to efforts made in co-ordination with the international coalition," ministry spokesman Maj. Gen. Saad Maan said.

"Iraqi forces continue to co-operate with various UN and international agencies to return the remaining kidnapped Yazidis," he said.

"Recent efforts have led to freeing about 60 hostages, and we hope more will be found now that ISIS has been defeated in its last stronghold in Syria," he said.
