SDF press offensive against ISIS Syria enclave

The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) pressed an offensive against the "Islamic State of Iraq and Syria" (ISIS) in its last redoubt in Syria on Thursday (March 21st), denying reports the extremist enclave had fallen.

"Mopping up operations continue in al-Baghouz camp," the SDF Command said in a brief statement.

The SDF, which launched a final assault against the village of al-Baghouz in eastern Syria on February 9th, denied reports that the ISIS enclave had completely fallen to its forces.

"The information of the total liberation of the village is unfounded," said the command.

Thousands of people have fled the besieged ISIS pocket in recent weeks and turned themselves in.

Since January, some 67,000 people have left the enclave, including 5,000 extremists who surrendered, according to the SDF.
