3 ISIS tunnels destroyed in Kirkuk

Joint Iraqi army and police forces, with air cover from the international coalition, have destroyed three underground tunnels used by the "Islamic State of Iraq and Syria" (ISIS) in the Hamreen mountain range, south-west of Kirkuk.

"The three tunnels were backfilled to prevent ISIS elements from using them again as hideouts," Lt. Col. Alaa Hussein of Kirkuk police said Wednesday (March 13th).

International coalition warplanes destroyed a large underground weapons cache belonging to ISIS as part of the operation, he said.

"Several suspects were arrested in the two-day operation and are being interrogated now," he said.
