Iraq rebuilds 50 bridges destroyed by ISIS in Anbar

Anbar province has rebuilt 50 bridges out of 112 destroyed by the "Islamic State of Iraq and Syria" (ISIS) during its occupation of the province, the Anbar Roads and Bridges Directorate said Monday (March 11th).

"The campaign to rebuild and rehabilitate the damaged bridges, which was launched after the liberation of Anbar cities from ISIS, has so far seen the rehabilitation of 50 bridges," directorate head Mahdi Abed Farhan told local media.

The central and local governments, as well as UN and international humanitarian organisations are taking part in the campaign, he said.

All 112 damaged bridges across the province will be rehabilitated over the next two years, he said, noting that "the extent of damage in these bridges is enormous".

This is one of the biggest challenges facing the local government, said Farhan, "but we are determined to win the challenge and complete all the bridges".
