International coalition supplies Iraqi forces with landmine detectors

The international coalition has provided Iraqi forces with advanced devices and equipment for the detection of landmines and improvised explosive devices (IEDs) planted by the "Islamic State of Iraq and Syria" (ISIS) in Ninawa province, Ninawa Operations Commander Nejm Eddin Karim al-Jubury said.

"Thanks to these advanced detectors, Iraqi forces have over the past days dismantled and seized about 2,000 kilogrammes of explosives which ISIS elements had buried underground," he told Diyaruna Thursday (February 14th).

The explosives include mortars, landmines, IEDs and booby traps, he said.

"Our efforts to clear cities and agricultural areas in the Ninawa Plains will continue until we are certain they are clear of anything that could endanger civilian lives," he said.
