Iraq targets ISIS positions in Syria

A gathering of "Islamic State of Iraq and Syria" (ISIS) militants was targeted near the Syrian border town of al-Sousa, eight kilometres from the Iraqi border, the Iraqi army’s al-Badiya and al-Jazeera Operations Command said Friday (January 11th).

"In co-ordination with the international coalition, Iraqi forces used heavy artillery to target an ISIS gathering near the Syrian town of al-Sousa in Deir Ezzor province, based on intelligence about hostile activities that may target Iraq’s security," command spokesman Lt. Col. Ahmed al-Obaidi told Diyaruna.

"The artillery strikes were precise, and killed several terrorists and destroyed an important position," he said.
