3 ISIS tunnels destroyed on Iraq-Syria border

Iraqi forces destroyed three tunnels connecting Iraq to Syria that the "Islamic State of Iraq and Syria" (ISIS) had dug during the group’s occupation of border areas between the two countries, the Ninawa Operations Command said on Friday (January 4th).

The tunnels were found and destroyed in Rabia, across the border from Syria’s Deir Ezzor province, commander Nejim Eddin Karim al-Jubury told Diyaruna.

The tunnels had been dug in previous years and their lengths ranged from 900 metres to 1,800 metres, he said.

"Weapons found inside were removed before the tunnels were completely destroyed," he said.
