Several ISIS pockets, hideouts destroyed in Kirkuk

Nine "Islamic State of Iraq and Syria" (ISIS) hideouts in different areas of southern and southwestern Kirkuk have been destroyed, Iraq's Joint Operations Command said Wednesday (January 2nd).

The nine hideouts were in the areas of Hamreen, Wadi Zghaitoun, al-Khanajer, al-Khatuniya and al-Hayaze, and were fully destroyed in separate operations over the past two days by the Iraqi army and Iraqi Federal Police forces, command spokesman Brig. Gen. Yahya Rasul told Diyaruna.

"One wanted terrorist and six terror suspects were arrested, and various weapons, explosives weighing more than 200 kilogrammes, guided rockets and shoulder-mounted rockets were also seized," he added.

"The Iraqi army is proceeding with its operations in those areas to fully clear them of ISIS remnants and crack down on fugitive elements who are taking advantage of the rough terrain in the area to hide," he said.
