Iraqi army thwarts attempt to smuggle explosives into Fallujah

Iraqi army forces have foiled an attempt to smuggle materials used in making explosives into Fallujah, the Anbar Operations Command said Thursday (December 27th).

The army seized a large truck loaded with four tonnes of highly-concentrated chlorine powder at the city's eastern entrance, commander Maj. Gen. Mahmoud al-Falahi told Diyaruna.

Chlorine powder is used in making improvised explosive devices (IEDs), locally-made rocket-propelled grenades and mortars, he said.

"Two men on board the truck were arrested, and an investigation was opened to identify the person who the shipment was intended for and its source," he said.
