8 ISIS leaders arrested in Kirkuk

Iraqi forces arrested eight "Islamic State of Iraq and Syria" (ISIS) leaders in an operation in Kirkuk and its suburbs, the Iraqi Interior Ministry said Wednesday (December 26th).

"Counter-Terrorism Service forces and local police units carried out a high-level operation based on continuous monitoring that led to the arrest of eight ISIS terrorists," ministry spokesman Maj. Gen. Saad Maan said in a statement.

"The detainees are wanted on terror charges, and had escaped from al-Hawijah district after it was liberated to the centre of Kirkuk and its suburbs," he said.

"They are all involved in terror attacks, including murders, forced displacement and attacks on security forces," he added.
