New batch of Iraqi refugees return from Turkey

A new batch of displaced Iraqis have returned home from Turkey’s Akda refugee camp, Iraq’s Ministry of Migration and Displacement said Monday (December 17th).

"In co-ordination with the Ministry of Transport, the Joint Crisis Management Centre and border security forces at Ibrahim al-Khalil border crossing, the ministry’s teams on Sunday returned 207 displaced Iraqis from the Akda refugee camp in Turkey," the ministry said in a statement.

"Their return to Iraq is part of our efforts to put an end to the issue of displaced people who left their homes after the 'Islamic State of Iraq and Syria' (ISIS) captured several areas in northern and western Iraq," it said.

The ministry’s field teams distributed food and basic items to the displaced as they were brought back to Iraq in co-ordination with the UNHCR, it said.
