Five "Islamic State of Iraq and Syria" (ISIS) elements were arrested in a security operation in the border town of al-Baaj in western Iraq, the Iraqi police in Ninawa province said Tuesday (December 11th).
"Joint security forces on Monday evening carried out two simultaneous operations in al-Baaj and arrested five ISIS elements involved in several terrorist crimes in the last three years," Ninawa police chief Brig. Gen. Hamad Namis al-Jubury said.
The operation was carried out based on intelligence tip-offs, he said, noting that the police timed the operation to prevent the militants from escaping the buildings where they were staying.
"Light weapons and hand grenades found in their possession were seized," he said.
