Iraqi forces thwart ISIS infiltration attempt from Syria

An infiltration attempt by six "Islamic State of Iraq and Syria" (ISIS) militants from Syria into Iraq has been foiled, the Iraqi Army’s al-Badiya and al-Jazeera Operations Command said Friday (December 7th).

"The Iraqi army and Border Guards' 2nd Brigade repelled an attempt by several ISIS terrorists to infiltrate into Iraq by taking advantage of poor weather conditions and low visibility in the area," command spokesman Lt. Col. Hameed al-Rubaie told Diyaruna.

"Iraqi forces clashed with the militants, injured one and forced the others to flee back into Syria," he said, adding that the injured militant, an Iraqi, was arrested and taken for treatment under tight security.

This is the second infiltration attempt to be thwarted in less than one week, he said, as "ISIS terrorists are trying to enter Iraq from Syrian areas adjacent to the border".
