New military operation targets 3 areas of eastern Diyala

A new military operation has kicked off to crack down on "Islamic State of Iraq and Syria" (ISIS) cells in three areas of eastern Diyala, the Diyala Operations Command said Thursday (November 29th).

Joint army, police and Counter-Terrorism Service forces, supported by aerial coverage from the Iraqi air force, have launched "a large-scale military operation from two main fronts to crack down on ISIS cells in Qazlaq, Thalab and al-Hadid valleys", the command said in a statement.

"The operation is part of the Diyala Operations Command’s strategy to put an end to the presence of ISIS cells in its area of operations," the statement said.
