Iraqi forces arrest 6 militants near Syria border

Iraqi forces arrested six wanted terror suspects and seized various weapons in a large-scale search operation in areas near the Syria border, the Ninawa police command said on Tuesday (November 27th).

"Joint Iraqi forces, including police, army and Counter-Terrorism Service forces, have over the past hours seized 26 explosive vests in western Mosul’s Old City," Ninawa police chief Brig. Gen. Hamad Namis al-Jubury told Diyaruna.

They also discovered a weapons and ammunition cache in Rabia near the Syria border and arrested six wanted terror suspects in Tal Afar, al-Baaj, the outskirts of Mosul and near Badoush, he said.

"The detainees are accused of carrying out terror crimes for the account of the 'Islamic State of Iraq and Syria' (ISIS)," he said.

"The police and security forces are keen on proceeding with search and raid operations to prevent further terrorist attacks and to thwart ISIS attempts to re-group its terror cells in the province," he said.
