Iraqi forces arrest 9 militants in Salaheddine

Iraqi forces arrested nine suspects and uncovered a hideout containing various items used by the "Islamic State of Iraq and Syria" (ISIS) in Salaheddine, the Security Media Centre said Monday (October 15th).

Forces from the Samarra Operations Command carried out the arrests during a large-scale operation near Samarra, the centre said in a statement.

During the raid, security forces also seized weapons, explosives and other items ISIS had used in its repeated attacks from Salaheddine's desert areas, the statement said.

“These items include military uniforms, communications devices, SIM cards, medicines, military bags and other military items,” the statement added.

The army also found one mortar and one explosives vest during the same operation, which included a search of the banks of the Tigris River banks in Samarra to ensure no ISIS remnants were sheltering there.
