Iraqi police prevent explosion in central Fallujah

Iraqi forces on Thursday night (October 11th) dismantled two improvised explosive devices (IEDs) that had been planted near an ice cream shop in central Fallujah, the Iraqi police in Anbar province said.

“The first IED was a small cola can filled with explosives and a detonator, and planted opposite an ice cream shop featuring children's toys and tables for families,” Anbar police chief Maj. Gen. Hadi Kassar Erzaij told Diyaruna.

“It was dismantled without incident after the shop owner informed the police about electric wires extending from the IED opposite his shop,” he said.

“When we searched the surrounding area, another, bigger IED was found,” he said. “The area had to be evacuated, because it was not possible to dismantle the IED in a controlled manner without human or material losses.”

“Several suspects were arrested in the operation and are being questioned now,” Erzaij said.
