Iraqi police arrest ISIS leader in Anbar

Iraqi forces arrested Sunday (September 30th) a senior "Islamic State of Iraq and Syria" (ISIS) member in Anbar province, the Anbar Operations Command said Monday.

"Acting on intelligence reports and thanks to residents' co-operation, security forces arrested a senior ISIS leader in al-Taamim in Ramadi, near Anbar University," Anbar police chief Maj. Gen. Hadi Kassar Erzaij told Diyaruna.

Mohammed Adnan was arrested thanks to the co-operation of locals who informed the police about him, he said.

"Fake IDs and documents were found in his possession," Erzaij said, noting that "initial investigations indicate he was planning to have a passport issued and use it for fleeing from Iraq".

The detained is now being questioned pending his referral to court, he said.
