Five "Islamic State of Iraq and Syria" (ISIS) militants were killed in clashes with Iraqi forces in al-Hawijah, Kirkuk province, Iraq's Joint Operations Command said Monday (September 24th).
"Iraqi forces last night clashed with several ISIS gunmen during a security mission in Hawi Zainia village, east of al-Hawijah," command spokesman Brig. Gen. Yahya Rasul told Diyaruna.
"The clash took place after joint forces tried to enter a vacant building to make sure it contained no security threats," he said.
"The terrorists were killed after they refused to surrender and opened fire on the security forces," he noted, adding that weapons and explosives were found at the building.
