3 terror operations thwarted near Samarra

Iraqi security forces thwarted three operations the "Islamic State of Iraq and Syria" (ISIS) planned to carry out against religious visitors during the month of Muharram in Samarra, the Samarra Operations Command said Wednesday (September 12th).

"Acting on prior intelligence, a joint force stormed two residential buildings in al-Dujail [near Samarra] and arrested five terrorists who had three explosive vests, weapons, explosives and ammunition in their possession," commander Maj. Gen. Emad Mohammed al-Zuhairi told Diyaruna.

According to al-Zuhairi, various maps were seized, and the detainees admitted to planning terrorist attacks against religious visitors in Samarra over the next few weeks.
