Senior ISIS official arrested in Anbar

Iraqi police in Anbar province have arrested a senior "Islamic State of Iraq and Syria" (ISIS) official in a pre-emptive operation Thursday (September 6th) west of Ramadi.

ISIS official "Taleb al-Marawi, who was in charge of ISIS's recruitment and support battalion", was arrested at a residential building near Heet, Anbar police chief Maj. Gen. Hadi Kassar Erzaij told Diyaruna.

The arrest was based on accurate intelligence on his whereabouts after he infiltrated Iraq from Syria, Erzaij said.

Weapons, explosives, documents and foreign currency were found in the possession of al-Marawi who is wanted for various crimes, he said, including participation in mass executions in Ramadi and recruitment of young men in the ranks of ISIS.
