ISIS bomb workshop found in Anbar

A large bomb-making workshop belonging to the "Islamic State of Iraq and Syria" (ISIS) was found during an operation near al-Qaim in western Anbar, the Iraqi police in Anbar province said Thursday (August 23rd).

"Iraqi forces uncovered an integrated ISIS workshop for making improvised explosive devices (IEDs) and car bombs in Akashat, near al-Qaim," Anbar police chief Maj. Gen. Hadi Kassar Erzaij told Diyaruna.

The workshop contained at least 1.2 tonnes of explosives, he said.

"ISIS terrorists had turned a house into a bomb-making workshop during their occupation of the area," he said, adding that after the group's defeat, the house was found with the help of locals who reported three suspects who had been frequenting it.

"The suspects were also arrested, and are being questioned now," Erzaij said.
