The Iraqi army has thwarted three suicide bombings in eastern Samarra on Wednesday morning (August 15th), the Ministry of Defence said.
"Acting on intelligence tip-offs, army forces besieged three terrorists who were preparing to carry out operations against civilian and security targets," the ministry said in a statement.
One of the bombers died when his explosives vest detonated after Iraqi forces shot him. Another was killed and the third was arrested in the operation in al-Sayfouna in al-Muatasim, the statement said.
"The forces seized two machine guns, one explosives vest and 15 hand grenades," it said, noting that security forces launched a large-scale operation in the area in search of other terrorists’ hideouts.
