More than 1,000 streets were reopened and a large number of checkpoints were removed from al-Rusafa and al-Karkh in Baghdad, Baghdad Operations Commander Lt. Gen. Jalil al-Rubai said Monday (July 30th).

"The security situation in Baghdad is now stable, and we do not have fears over the reopening of streets," he said.

The Baghdad Operations Command has reopened more than 1,000 streets in al-Karkh and al-Rusafa, and will continue to take similar steps to help citizens travel easily, he said.

"Security forces have also removed some 70 checkpoints and more than 200 security posts across the capital," he said, stressing that "intelligence efforts in the capital are excellent and have reached the required level to fend off any potential terrorist threat".
