Iraqi forces comb villages on Syria border

Joint Iraqi forces have been combing villages in the westernmost part of the country to clear that area on the border with Syria from "Islamic State of Iraq and Syria" (ISIS) pockets.

The operation covers an area of 80 kilometres on the border between Syria and Anbar province, Joint Operations Command spokesman Brig. Gen. Yahya Rasoul told Diyaruna Friday (July 20th).

"The operation is aimed at fully clearing those areas [of ISIS remnants] and shutting off underground tunnels and hideouts that the group dug along the Syrian border," he said.

"Three hideouts containing weapons and ammunition have already been found, and six suspects have been arrested and are now being questioned by the security forces," he said.
