7 ISIS 'Islamic police' elements receive life sentences

The Central Criminal Court in Baghdad on Thursday (July 19th) issued life sentences against seven "Islamic State of Iraq and Syria" (ISIS) elements in Ninawa province.

"The Central Criminal Court has issued life sentences against seven defendants who admitted to belonging to the so-called ISIS Islamic Police," said Iraq’s Supreme Judicial Council spokesman Judge Abdul Sattar Bayraqdar.

"The defendants admitted to providing logistical support and assistance to the terrorist group in committing its crimes and to taking part in attacks on security and military forces," he said.

Confessions revealed the defendants had attended a military and religious training course before joining the group's "Islamic police", he said.
