Large quantities of weapons seized in Baghdad, dealer arrested

An arms dealer was arrested in Baghdad and large quantities of unlicensed weapons were seized as part of a plan to restrict arms to the state, the Iraqi Interior Ministry said on Tuesday (July 10th).

"The security forces have over the past two days seized large quantities of arms and ammunition during raids in various areas of Baghdad," ministry spokesman Brig. Gen. Saad Maan told Diyaruna.

Among the seized weapons are "dangerous medium-seized weapons", he said, adding that a notorious arms dealer involved in smuggling weapons to the capital was arrested in al-Zaafaraniya, east of Baghdad.

Weapons and ammunition in his possession were also seized, Maan said.
