ISIS 'security official' killed in Kirkuk

A Federal Police force in Kirkuk killed an "Islamic State of Iraq and Syria" (ISIS) leader during a security operation launched Tuesday (June 12th) in several areas of the province.

Fares Khales Saleh al-Mafraji, ISIS's security official in the "so-called Wilayat Kirkuk", was killed in al-Debs, Federal Police Chief Lt. Gen. Raed Shaker Jawdat said in a statement.

The operation targeted the areas of al-Debs, al-Hawijah and al-Riyadh with support from Iraqi warplanes, he said.

"Two other ISIS elements, including Abdullah al-Fateh who had been injured several times by our security units during the liberation operations, were arrested at an ISIS hideout near Kirkuk," he added.

Weapons and explosives were also seized in the operation, he said.
