ISIS retakes parts of Syria town in major attack

The "Islamic State of Iraq and Syria" (ISIS) used at least 10 suicide bombers on Friday (June 8th) in a massive attack on the Syrian border town of Albu Kamal, retaking parts of the town, AFP reported.

At least 25 Syrian regime and allied fighters were killed in the offensive, one of the group’s largest this year, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said.

"It is the biggest attack on Albu Kamal since they lost it" in November 2017, said Observatory head Rami Abdel Rahman.

"ISIS now controls several parts of the city. Fighting is ongoing in the centre," he added.

Albu Kamal lies on the border with Iraq in Syria's Deir Ezzor province, and was once the heart of the group’s self-styled state.
