Iraqi forces free 2 kidnapped brothers in Salaheddine

Two brothers kidnapped by the "Islamic State of Iraq and Syria" (ISIS) were freed and three extremists were killed in a joint operation carried out in a village south of Salaheddine's provincial capital of Tikrit Sunday night (June 3rd), the Iraqi police in Salaheddine said.

"A joint force carried out a swift operation based on prior intelligence about the presence of terrorists in the recently liberated Wadi Qara village, 70 kilometres south of Tikrit," deputy Salaheddine police chief Col. Mohammed al-Tikriti told Diyaruna.

During the raid, three extremists were killed while the rest fled, he said.

"Two brothers who the group had kidnapped a while ago for ransom were also freed, and weapons and explosives found in the terrorists’ possession were seized," he added.

Another operation was launched to pursue the remaining ISIS elements who fled towards the adjacent mountainous area, al-Tikriti said.
