Iraqi forces ramp up security along Syria border

Iraqi forces, supported by the Iraqi Air Force and international coalition warplanes, kicked off a new operation Thursday (May 31st) to boost security along the border with Syria, Anbar Operations Commander Maj. Gen. Mahmoud al-Falahi told Diyaruna.

The operation will cover the 200 kilometres of Anbar’s border with Syria, he said.

"Three tunnels linking Iraq to Syria were destroyed, and a fuel tanker, a truck, a weapons cache were seized in Wadi al-Qathaf area along the border," he said.

"The operation is aimed at closing all loopholes through which ISIS terrorists infiltrate into Iraq," he said.
