Iraqi forces hunt ISIS remnants in Salaheddine

Iraqi forces have kicked off a large-scale operation to eliminate any remaining "Islamic State of Iraq and Syria" (ISIS) positions in south-eastern Salaheddine province, the Joint Operations Command said Tuesday (May 15th).

The operation is being conducted in desert areas between the Makhul mountains and al-Siniya island in south-eastern Salaheddine, command spokesman Brig. Gen. Yahya Rasul told Diyaruna.

“Special operations units, supported by Iraqi warplanes, launched operations to search for ISIS pockets and remnants who are likely based in that desert and mountainous area of the province,” he said.

“The operation, which targets ISIS tunnels and hideouts, found a weapons cache in the first hours and destroyed,” Rasul added.
