Over 30,000 IEDs dismantled in Mosul

More than 30,000 landmines, improvised explosive devices (IEDs) and houses rigged with explosives which the "Islamic State of Iraq and Syria" (ISIS) had planted in Mosul have been dismantled over the past six months, the Mosul Civil Defence directorate said Thursday (April 5th).

"The civil defence’s unexploded ordnance teams have launched large-scale campaigns to clear Mosul's houses and alleys of landmines and IEDs" that ISIS had planted before it fled the city, Col. Wahid Mohammed al-Hamdani told Diyaruna.

"Work is ongoing to clear all areas and make sure they contain no explosives," he said.
