A joint army and Counter-Terrorism Service force conducted an airdrop in western Iraq and arrested a terror cell, the Iraqi Ministry of Defence said Tuesday (March 20th).
The forces carried out a "successful" airdrop deep into Anbar's desert, resulting in the arrest of members of an armed cell planning terror attacks in the coming days, the ministry said in a statement.
"The operation was accurately planned based on monitoring of the wanted elements over the past period by intelligence agencies," it said.
"Ten aircraft dropped the air-borne force near the target, 195 kilometres west of al-Assad airbase, after the area was besieged and secured by the army’s aircraft," it said.
All cell members were captured alive, the statement said.
