Iraqi forces dismantle terror network in Samarra

Joint Iraqi forces have netted a terror network affiliated with the "Islamic State of Iraq and Syria"(ISIS) that was planning a series of attacks against armed forces and civilians in Samarra, the Samarra Operations Command said Monday (March 19th).

"The army, supported by the Counter-Terrorism Service, carried out a carefully-planned operation that simultaneously targeted three areas in western and southern Samarra at dawn Monday," commander Maj. Gen. Emad al-Zuhairi told Diyaruna.

The operation netted "eight terrorists, including three senior leaders, and seized large quantities of weapons, explosives and two explosive vests", he said.

Iraqi forces uncovered the location of the network based on the confessions of a defendant who was arrested a few days ago in an operation targeting ISIS pockets, he said.
