Seven years of conflict in Syria have left more than 350,000 people dead, according to an updated overall death toll released Monday (March 12th) by the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.

According to the Observatory, 353,935 people have been killed since March 15th, 2011, AFP reported.

The conflict, which will enter its eighth year on Thursday, is taking a devastating toll on civilians, including in the ongoing regime assault on the opposition enclave of Eastern Ghouta, near Damascus.

According to the Observatory, 106,390 civilians have been killed in seven years, including 19,811 children and 12,513 women.

The Syrian regime has lost 63,820 soldiers, and 58,130 regime-allied and militia fighters, including 1,630 from Lebanon's Hizbullah and 7,686 from other foreign groups, have lost their lives.

Extremist groups, including the "Islamic State of Iraq and Syria" (ISIS) and the Tahrir al-Sham alliance, have lost 63,360 fighters.

The remaining losses include 62,039 fighters from other forces, including non-extremist opposition groups, Kurdish forces and defected regime soldiers.

A further 196 of the dead are of unknown identity.
