Iraq thwarts 2nd ISIS infiltration attempt from Syria in a week

Iraqi forces late on Thursday (March 1st) thwarted an infiltration attempt by "Islamic State of Iraq and Syria" (ISIS) elements from Syria, killing four of them, the Anbar Operations Command said Friday.

The remaining elements were forced to withdraw back into Syria, command spokesman Col. Mohammed al-Dulaimi told Diyaruna.

This was the second infiltration attempt into al-Qaim in western Anbar province in a week, he said, noting that the extremists took advantage of bad weather conditions and low visibility to attempt to cross the border.

"Four ISIS elements holding Arab nationalities were killed in the clashes," he said.
