Iraqi forces killed a suicide bomber wearing an explosives belt before he managed to blow himself up among displaced families returning to al-Qaim in western Anbar province, the Iraqi police in Anbar said Wednesday (February 14th).
"Security forces surrounded a man at a security checkpoint at the entrance to the city, and killed him before he blew himself up near a group of dozens of families who were returning to al-Qaim," Col. Salam Jassim al-Faraji of Anbar police command told Diyaruna.
"The suicide bomber refused to surrender after he was surrounded, and opened fire at the security forces, prompting them to kill him," he said.
The explosives belt was dismantled, and an extensive investigation was opened to identify the terrorist, he said.
