Female suicide bomber attack in Baghdad foiled

Iraqi forces thwarted an attack by a woman wearing an explosives belt who intended to target a vital area in Baghdad, the Baghdad Operations Command said Wednesday (February 7th).

She was planning to attack the area of Tal Tasa in al-Tarmiya district of northern Baghdad, commander Maj. Gen. Jalil al-Rubaie told Diyaruna.

"Security forces received intelligence that the suicide attacker had arrived at al-Tarmiya to target one of the areas in the capital," he said.

"The attacker holed up inside a school," he said, adding that the site was surrounded in an attempt to arrest her, but she blew herself up during the operation without causing any other casualties.

An investigation has been opened to find out the identity of the attacker and of others involved in the operation, he said.
