5 ISIS militants killed south of Mosul

Iraqi forces killed five "Islamic State of Iraq and Syria" (ISIS) militants in an operation in Hammam al-Alil, 20 kilometres south of Mosul, on Monday (February 5th), the Ninawa Operations Command announced Tuesday.

Army forces spotted a solar cell panel used to charge mobile phones in an agricultural area in the village of al-Hafi in Hammam al-Alil and conducted a search that netted a five-member ISIS cell, commander Maj. Gen. Nejim Eddin Karim al-Jubury told Diyaruna.

"An underground hideout was located containing five ISIS militants who had been living there for some time, using solar panels to cook, charge phones and provide heat," he said.

Clashes resulted in the killing of the five militants after they refused to surrender, he said, and their weapons, bombs and explosives were seized.
