ISIS 'petroleum minister' arrested in Ninawa

A senior "Islamic State of Iraq and Syria" (ISIS) leader serving as the group's "petroleum minister" was arrested in an operation in al-Baaj district, along the Syria border, the Ninawa Operations Command said Thursday (February 1st).

"Iraqi forces arrested ISIS's 'petroleum minister', Abdul Ghani Dhorgham Abdul Samad, as he was attempting to escape to Syria through al-Baaj in western Ninawa, with the help of smugglers," command chief Maj. Gen. Nejm Eddin al-Jubury said in a statement.

"The terrorist was arrested on Thursday in an army ambush based on intelligence, after two days of monitoring," he added.

He was transferred to Mosul, and will later be moved to Baghdad for interrogation before he is brought to court according to article 4 of the anti-terrorism law, al-Jubury said.
