Iraqi forces repel attack by ISIS gunmen in Kirkuk

Iraqi forces thwarted a terror attack launched by "Islamic State of Iraq and Syria" (ISIS) gunmen in Kirkuk at an early hour Wednesday (January 17th), the interior ministry said.

Security forces repelled ISIS gunmen "who tried to attack a checkpoint and a police patrol in al-Hawijah", ministry spokesman Brig. Gen. Saad Maan told Diyaruna.

"Our forces clashed with the terrorists, killed four of them and seized weapons and bombs in their possession," he said.

They also arrested one gunman, while two others who were positioned nearby managed to flee, he said, adding that a search operation is ongoing to find them.
