Iraqi forces seized a large quantity of weapons and explosives they found during an operation in northern Baghdad's al-Shaab neighbourhood, the Interior Ministry said Tuesday (January 16th).
“The security forces found large quantities of explosives, weapons and ammunition in al-Basateen area,” ministry spokesman Brig. Gen. Saad Maan told Diyaruna.
“Acting on prior intelligence, the security forces carried out an operation and found more than 400 medium and light weapons, along with hand grenades, landmines, projectiles, mortars and ammunition for various weapons,” he said.
Security forces seized all the weapons, which were found in underground caches, and arrested six suspects, he said.
“The campaign is part of a government programme to restrict the possession of weapons to the state,” he said.
