Security forces arrest 2 for child trafficking in Baghdad

Two men were arrested red handed while trying to "buy" two girls in western Baghdad, the Iraqi Interior Ministry said Thursday (January 4th).

"The security forces set up an ambush for two men in al-Tawayel, western Baghdad, as they tried to buy two girls, aged 20 and 15, to use them for human trafficking and prostitution," ministry spokesman Brig. Gen. Saad Maan told Diyaruna.

The defendants were taken to an interrogation centre, while the two girls are undergoing a physical and psychological evaluation, he said.

Iraqi security forces had kicked off an operations a few days ago to hunt down any individuals engaged in human trafficking crimes, Maan said.
