Displacement camp closed in Anbar

The Iraqi government shut down the Kilo 18 camp in Anbar, making it the first displacement camp to be closed in the province since the ouster of the "Islamic State of Iraq and Syria" (ISIS).

All displaced people at the camp have been returned to their areas of origin in the district of al-Qaim, the office of Anbar governor Mohammed al-Halbusi said in a statement Tuesday (January 2nd).

"In co-ordination with the central government and the Ministry of Migration and Displacement, Anbar province has completed all the necessary requirements to bring all displaced people back from the Kilo 18 camp," the statement said.

"The camp is now fully closed," it said, noting that there is a plan to return all displaced people to their areas and close all remaining camps in the province.
