Last batch of displaced returns to Baghdad

The last batch of internally displaced families who had fled Baghdad in recent years because of the "Islamic State of Iraq and Syria" (ISIS), have returned to their homes in the capital's outskirts and suburbs, officials said Thursday (December 28th).

"On Wednesday, 339 displaced families returned to al-Lahib area in Abu Ghraib," Baghdad operations commander Lt. Gen. Jalil al-Rubai said.

The total number of displaced families who have returned is 16,000 families, he said.

"We hereby announce the closure of the file of displaced people in Baghdad," al-Rubai added.

He said that 8,000 families have returned to their areas in southern Baghdad, with a similar number returning to areas in northern Baghdad, noting that "all necessary services have been provided for the return of those families".
