Iraqi forces uncover 6 ISIS tunnels in Anbar’s desert

Six "Islamic State of Iraq and Syria" (ISIS) tunnels were found in Anbar’s desert amid ongoing operations to clear the desert of the group's remaining pockets, Iraq's Joint Operations Command said Thursday (December 21st).

"The Iraqi army [found] six tunnels that were dug by ISIS elements in Wadi Houran and Wadi al-Qadhf in Anbar’s desert," command spokesman Brig. Gen. Yahya Rasul told Diyaruna.

The forces clashed with seven militants who were still hiding in the tunnels, killing four and arresting the other three, he said.

"Our goal now is to destroy and backfill those tunnels after we remove all the weapons from them, to prevent ISIS elements from returning to them," he said.
