5 terror suspects arrested in Baghdad

A security operation in Baghdad has netted five terror suspects on Wednesday and Thursday (November 2nd), the Iraqi Interior Ministry said.

Joint Counter-Terrorism Service and Baghdad police forces conducted a raid in Abu Ghraib, Aqar Quf and al-Mahmoudiya, west and south of Baghdad, ministry spokesman Brig. Gen. Saad Maan told Diyaruna.

"The detainees are wanted for terrorism-related charges, and one of them had been convicted in absentia for carrying out bombings and killing security personnel in 2016," he said, adding that the detainees are affiliated with the "Islamic State of Iraq and Syria" (ISIS).

"Our forces seized light weapons, bombs, ammunition, and military communications equipment at the sites where the individuals were arrested," he added.
