Iraqi aircraft destroys ISIS position in al-Qaim

An Iraqi airstrike killed 14 "Islamic State of Iraq and Syria" (ISIS) elements and destroyed a bomb-making workshop in western Anbar, the Iraqi Ministry of Defence said Thursday (October 19th).

"At 5:00 a.m. on Thursday, Iraqi air force fighter jets targeted an ISIS headquarters in al-Qaim," the ministry said in a statement.

The site was used as a workshop for making IEDs and rigging vehicles with explosives, it said.

"Fourteen terrorists were killed and the site was fully destroyed in the operation," the statement said.

Meanwhile, Iraqi forces have tightened the siege on Rawah in western Anbar, to prevent ISIS elements from escaping, Anbar Operations Command spokesman Col. Mohammed al-Dulaimi said.

They are now preparing to storm the town, he told Diyaruna.

"A plan is in place to deal with families inside the city before the launch of the liberation operation," he said.
